Assembly line workers paid $156,000 PER YEAR??? Please please tell me its not true!!Please tell me thats a mistake!!!Most of my working life,I have been a Captain with an airline flying Airbus and Boeings --and I NEVER ONCE made that in much-- in weaker Australian dollars too- (obviously a "low cost carrier" like your Southwest and Jet Blue--but still....you must be kidding , right??)
I have loved all things automotive for most of my life , and used to have a fondness for the US autos until they started coming off the assembly line as brand new cars , but looking and feeling already 5 years or more old--i.e. about the time in the early 90's when the Honda Accord pulled ahead and became the biggest selling car in U.S. --causing all kind of handwringing and soul-searching.....I used to want to scream at your auto execs.."for Gods sake, if you want to beat the Japs ---then buld a @#$%^&!!! Camry...
Now I know why they have absolutely no hope of doing it--so......back to rebuilding my '57 Chevy.....
BTW--if the 156,000 figure is wrong, and wages are actually reasonable---then the companies should be euthanased? esp the boardroom passengers --and rebuilt using current model brainpower and design teams....the reason they cant sell anything is because IMHO the majority of their products are simply crap --and have been for nearly 20 years now..

The hourly rate of $75 is incorrect, and it misrepresents the situation for auto workers. I've read that this stated rate includes compensation for retirees - that's an absurd way to state the wage. According to rough numbers I've heard, line workers make around $50k a year before including pension and health benefits, which is still good compensation, but nowhere near the rate the anti-union pundits are tossing around.

The problem is that the companies are managing the pensions, rather than paying into a combined pension fund for all auto workers, through the union. Same for health insurance.
