Adjusting for inflation, the March &quot;high&quot; wasn&#039;t very high at all, and the actual modern all-time high still occurred in January 1980, nominally at $850 but in today&#039;s dollars amounting to several thousand dollars at the very least. The only possible significance of the March nominal high is one of psychological import with people who don&#039;t understand inflation.</description>
