"The Vajpayee government was rejected by the Indian electorate in 2004, in a stunning act of electoral ingratitude.."
I stopped reading at this point..What a spectacularly ignorant comment.

A fantastic article. To Sunil, I guess you are one of those Indians who have fallen for the whole "India story" rhetoric. I am a proud Indian, but I am not proud pf what India has accomplished and please dont tell me about the potential..cauz potential means nothing until it has been achieved.
I for one am betting on the US. Leave aside the next 2 years and the US will emerge. Do not underestimate the tenacity of the Americans. I have worked with them and Europeans and Chinese. I can tell you one thing, if anything, Americans are innovators. They will innovate their way out of this mess.
Abt, Pandit Nehru. He did create the Public Sectors. But if you look at the returns these companies are generating as a whole - below 2% (I am talking of ROI and not stock market).

Analysis is good, but pray what is the alternative? Investing in the US? There are only 2 major economies showing positive growth: China and India. China is heavily overbought. I bet on India.

By the way, your take on BJP's role in economic reforms is not true. The foundation for India's growth has been laid as far back in the 50s by Nehru when he created a lot of Public Sector Organizations, which are valued highly today.
