The Best and Worst of Wall Street 2013

Of all the things you can say about the world of finance this year, it wasn't boring.

Looking back at the best and worst of Wall Street 2013, we've had record stock market highs, hyped up IPOs, activist investors gone wild, and red-faced moments for some prominent CEOs.

Some of it was sad, most of it was entertaining, but none of it should have distracted you from making money.

We here at Money Morning have created some very special awards to commemorate some of the most striking developments of 2013.

Let's start with that unforgettable Ackman-Icahn smackdown...

This New Year's Eve, "Ring the Register" for Profits

New Year's Eve is one of my favorite times of the year.

And not because I look forward to the lavish parties folks like to hold on that final night of the year.

In fact, I don't party at all.

My wife and I have actually established a neat little ritual that lets us say adios to the outgoing year… and to welcome in the new one by setting some goals for the one that's coming in.

We dress up and go out for a late dinner – usually at one of the nice local eateries that we like and support. But before we do, the two of us always sit by the fire and have our most important "family talk" of the year.

Each year, you see, I write an "annual report" that details our achievements for that year. These can include accomplishments at work or in the civic projects we're involved with, great investments we've made, and projects we've completed.

As my wife and I sit by the fire, we review that "report" – and celebrate our accomplishments. And then we establish goals for the New Year – creating an "action plan" whose success or failure we'll review at our "chat" the following New Year's Eve.

I'm sharing this story for a reason: My wife and I have been doing this for more than a decade now. That's long enough to see that this "tradition" has had a positive impact on our lives.

And it points to a habit that I believe every investor should develop.

I'm talking about developing a personal investment plan.

It can help make you a winner. In fact, it can help make you rich.

And today I'm going to show you how...

Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) Stock: Biggest One-Day Drop Is a Warning Sign for Investors

Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) stock took a 13% plunge on Friday in its biggest one-day drop since it went public on Nov. 7, a blip that should warn investors of bad things to come for the over-hyped social media sweetheart.

A downgrade to "Sell" by Macquarie Equity research analyst Ben Schachter on Friday was the likely culprit. The stock opened at $72 per share and closed at $63.75.

"Nothing has changed in the fundamentals to justify the sharp rise," Schachter told clients.

Here's what investors need to know now...

Ten Bitcoin Facts That Are Stranger Than Fiction

Just about everything that has to do with the digital currency Bitcoin is at least a little odd.

But there are some Bitcoin facts that are truly bizarre – things that could only happen in the universe of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin, which exists entirely in cyberspace, has attracted a lot of attention in recent months as the Bitcoin price has soared from less than $200 in September to more than $1,200 at the end of November. The world's leading "altcurrency" is trading for about $800 now.

It doesn't get much crazier than this...
