Last month, when U.S. President Barack Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency unveiled their coal-crippling plans to reduce carbon emissions from power plants, I immediately thought back to my pre-teen days growing up near Pittsburgh.
I can still remember passing the imposing Jones & Laughlin steel plant whenever we drove from Murrysville to downtown Pittsburgh. Even as a young boy, understood that coal was to that region what blood is to the human body.
