When October rolls around each year, most investors think about some of the epic market crashes this market has brought.
I think about the Cuban Missile Crisis, the 13-day standoff that brought the United States and the Soviet Union to the brink of nuclear war back in 1962.
I was only 11 months old at the time, so this reflex isn't due to intense personal memories. But as you folks know, I'm an avid student of history. And I grew up as the son of a successful aerospace and naval-systems engineer, so events of this magnitude matter to me.
