New Obamacare Deadline Needs a Christmas Miracle

Today (Monday), the Obama administration extended the Obamacare deadline to sign up for coverage by one day, to tomorrow. Consumers will have to enroll and pay in full by Christmas Eve to have insurance when coverage begins on New Year's Day, or else face a fine.

Most Americans are required to have health coverage in 2014 under Obamacare mandates, or they will face a fine of at least $95 for lapsed coverage.

This one-day Obamacare deadline extension isn't the first. Originally, it was set for Dec. 15. That was extended to Dec. 23, to give consumers additional time navigating the maligned website.

After months of tantalizing rumors that Apple and China Mobile Ltd.  (NYSE ADR: CHL) were on the brink of an agreement to allow China's largest carrier to sell the iPhone, the companies finally confirmed the deal yesterday (Sunday).

It's a big new market for Apple's primary profit machine, so it should give Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) stock a huge boost – right?

Well…sort of. But don't put in that order for a new yacht just yet…

What the Fed Taper Means for Oil Prices

Last Wednesday afternoon, after much gnashing of teeth, the Fed finally revealed its long-awaited quantitative easing (QE) taper plans…

And the Dow jumped by almost 300 points.

Now, the taper itself is small to start – just a $10 billion reduction for the month of January. But the announcement was coupled with a pledge to keep the Fed funds rate at zero beyond the 6.5% unemployment threshold.

and it's going to change global markets in a fundamental way...

Wasteful Government Spending 2013: Who Spends $1 Million on a Bus Stop?

One would think it nearly impossible to spend $1 million on a lowly bus stop, but with government anything is possible – no matter how absurd.

The extravagant bus stop is just one example of wasteful government spending detailed in the 2013 edition of the "Wastebook," compiled annually by the office of Sen. Tom Coburn, R-OK.

Coburn's team found $30 billion worth of wasteful government spending this year. While less than 1% of the total $3.8 trillion federal budget, what Congress chooses to fund in the face of massive budget deficits and a $17 trillion debt shows just how lousy they are at prioritizing how taxpayer dollars are spent.

What is Congress thinking?

The "$5 Rule" Gives You a Powerful Edge over Goldman Traders

We hear it all the time, this notion that professional traders at top-tier Wall Street firms like Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, and HSBC have tremendous advantages over smaller, individual investors.

The system is rigged…

Too-big-to-failbankers are getting richer at the expense of the little guy

And a lot of it's true. We reveal these "insider advantages" all the time here at Money Morning.

But as a former hedge fund trader at Goldman Sachs, I know firsthand that some of these notions are fantasy.

In some cases, operating outside the system gives you the edge, especially when it comes to "The $5 Rule."

It handcuffed me at Goldman, essentially forbidding me to make an irresistible trade. But it didn't ban my non-Goldman friend from the opportunity. So he made the trade.

And it worked.

He turned $50,000 into more than $1 million, in less than two years.

Clearly, this is an edge the big-gun institutional traders wish they had…
