Privately held Airbus S.A.S. has filed a U.S. patent application for some space-saving - but altogether uninviting - seats to go in its aircraft models.
The Netherlands-based business competes with Boeing (NYSE: BA) for top spot as world's biggest commercial jet maker in terms of revenue. The new Airbus airline seats would likely lead to never-before-seen low airfare, but at what expense to comfort? Features include bicycle saddle shaped cushions that appear to "seat" you in a nearly standing position. They fold up when not in use to save space, and leave little room between seat neighbors.
