An Election 2016 News Update: GOP Debate Highlights

The final Election 2016 GOP debate of the year aired on Tuesday, Dec. 15, on CNN. Its theme was national security – the biggest issue right now for American voters in the 2016 presidential election.

A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released Monday found that 40% of Americans think national security and terrorism should be the government's top priority. More than 60% of those polled listed it in their top two spots.

Candidates came well-prepared on the issue. Despite the typical tense exchanges, the presidential hopefuls showed voters more insight into their platforms and how they hold up under pressure.
