Carson's Ex-Campaign Manager: "Unless Something Cataclysmic Happens, Trump Will Win"

GOP presidential hopeful Dr. Ben Carson's ex-campaign manager, Barry Bennett, just said he thinks real estate mogul Donald Trump will win the party's nomination. Bennett was one of a handful of Carson staffers who resigned on New Year's Eve, citing irreconcilable issues with Carson's business manager, Armstrong Williams.

Bennett told CNN yesterday of Trump's ever-increasing popularity, "He's got the support out there right now and unless something cataclysmic happens, he's going to win."

He continued, "I hear people say all the time he will explode. They have been saying that for a year. He hasn't. Unless something very big happens, he is not going to. I think people need to get ready for [Trump] to be our nominee."

Even without Bennett's unsupportive comments, Carson has hit a low point in his presidential campaign. The retired neurosurgeon battled for front-runner status with Trump as recently as October, but he has since dropped off sharply in the polls. According to the result of a Public Policy Polling survey released yesterday, Carson has gone from 9% to 4% support among registered Republican voters in New Hampshire.

Trump, however, remains on top with 29% of GOP voter support in the state - up 2% from his rating in December. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is next line - well behind Trump, however - with 15% support.

"You can't suspend the laws of mathematics," Bennett added in his interview with CNN. "If one thousand polls show [Trump] winning, he is likely going to win."
