The Infamous Hacker Who May Help the FBI with the Hillary Clinton Email Probe

It's been a busy week for federal authorities...

On Wednesday, a damning State Department audit revealed that Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton did indeed circumvent federal records policies with the use of her private email server.

That same day, a Romanian hacker who goes by "Guccifer" - the man who claimed he broke into Clinton's email server with astounding ease -- pleaded guilty to charges of unauthorized access of a protected computer and aggravated identity theft. These counts are tied to his illegal intrusion into systems belonging to former U.S. government officials, including former Clinton adviser Sidney Blumenthal and former Secretary of State Colin Powell; they do not concern the FBI's Hillary Clinton email probe.

Not yet, at least...

You see, under the deal Guccifer - whose real name is Marcel Lehel Lazar - struck with the feds, he received a reduced sentence of seven years in prison and up to $500,000 in fines.

But crucially for Clinton's fate, Lazar also agreed to cooperate with federal authorities in all future investigations.

That's of great import because we still await the results of the ongoing FBI investigation on whether Clinton breached federal security policies and mishandled sensitive government information with her email server. At the conclusion of its investigation, the FBI will recommend, or will not recommend, Clinton be indicted.

At least one anonymous source has come forward to claim Lazar's extradition to the United States on April 1 was indeed connected to the Clinton email investigation. On April 8, the unnamed source told FOX News' Catherine Herridge that the move was "not a coincidence."

The interest in Lazar's possible connection to Clinton's case also extends to Capitol Hill, where the Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security committees have both purportedly sought to interview him.

Lazar has declined the committees' requests.
