Five Things You Didn't Know About Amazon.com

Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) wasn't always the Internet behemoth that it is today.

In fact, the company started out in the garage of founder Jeff Bezos' home in Bellevue, Wash., back in 1994, ironically named "Earth's Biggest Bookstore."

Back then, the company only sold books and later "diversified" to sell DVDs, Blu-rays, and CDs.

Now Amazon sells everything from shampoo to deck furniture and is worth more than $430 billion. That's more than twice the market value of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT), which has been in business over twice as long!

And it's only just the beginning for the e-commerce giant. Amazon is rumored to be entering almost every industry - from groceries, to pharma, to cars.
