The Trump-Kim Summit Is Dead On Arrival... but We Saw This Coming a Month Ago

Sometimes when you're right, you wish you weren't.

Exactly one month ago today - April 24, 2018 - I wrote to my Private Briefing subscribers warning them that the North Korea "supreme leader" was more like a "capo" from "Goodfellas." In other words, a mobster or thug who operated as if the rules didn't apply to him.

And that, to me, made it highly unlikely that a meaningful agreement, let alone a workable denuclearization program, would ever come to pass.

And I was right.

Just look at what happened today.

There's Still No Easy Solution to the North Korean Threat...

Now, I give the Trump administration credit for trying to make this move - as opposed to resorting to an Osirak-style raid just like the one the Israeli Air Force staged back in 1981. That daring, dangerous operation was successful in its goal to demolish then-Iraqi strongman Saddam Hussein's nuclear program.

Of course, the "hard option" is one of the riskiest, least palatable courses of action available, as I've said before.

That we've come to this point at all is the result of a wimpy permissiveness from consecutive Democratic and Republican administrations over the years. That's allowed the North Korean nuclear program to progress too far to easily knock out.

But I knew that the Kim dynasty's track record - recall the whole "cooling tower demolition display" back in 2008 - made it extremely unlikely that Kim Jong Un would ever follow through with meaningful denuclearization.

After all, I've been following this since way before it hit the mainstream media's radar.

...But This Is Still the Best Play to Capitalize on That Threat

Back in February 2013, in a piece titled "If This Stock Doubles, Thank North Korea," I warned that North Korea's nuclear ballistic missile program was destined to become a huge global security issue.

I said it would trigger a big push to develop missile-interceptor systems. And I said that Aerojet Rocketdyne Holdings Inc. (NYSE: AJRD), which makes the rocket motors for missile interceptors, would likely double...

It has - more than doubled, in fact, delivering peak gains of better than 163%.

Now we're back to where we were before - a fact that will drive the focus on missile-interceptor technology.

And that, in turn, will fuel a continued focus on defense technology and defense spending - and fuel more gains in Aerojet Rocketdyne.
