Dow Jones Today Falling as Stimulus Looks Less Likely

The Dow Jones today is taking a hit after Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that a stimulus deal before the election is looking less and less likely.

Earlier this week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) said the White House’s proposal “falls significantly short” of what they believe to be expected.

More of what’s moving the Dow today, below.

How to Play IBM's $19 Billion Spin-Off News

I'd say, "It's hard to believe IBM is 109 years old," but the truth is "Big Blue" has been showing its age for a while now.

Believe it or not, International Business Machines Inc. is actually one of the longest-listed companies on the Dow Jones Industrials, listed from 1932 to 1939, and most recently in 1979. The way the Dow is shedding "legacy" companies these days, who knows how much longer IBM will be there.

It was a little before my time, but once, IBM was the bluest of the blue-chip stocks – in fact, it practically put the "blue" in "blue chip."

There's a lot going on in the company's trophy case. IBM employees have been awarded five Nobel Prizes, five National Medals of Science, and a huge array of prestigious awards.

IBM manufactured the most powerful, widely used computer system in the world for nearly two decades. The company's track record of innovation was unmatched… for a while.

Don't get me wrong: This company is still pulling off impressive technological feats. It's just that nowadays, a whole lot of other companies are, too. Once it was one of the most valuable companies in the country; now it's in 34th place on the Fortune 500.

Its stock is down from its 2013 all-time highs of $213, and not many analysts expect it to get back there anytime soon. Then again, it may not have to.

IBM still has one of the most popular, valuable brands in the word. Just close your eyes and think of "IBM," and I'd bet you can see its famous "eight bar" logo. And, like I said, it's still got more than a few tech aces up its sleeve.

And that is the key to IBM's latest move – why it made such a huge splash. And that's why I'm making a very, very rare buy recommendation today… Full Story

Why Garmin Stock Is a Great Buy Now

Garmin Ltd.

(NASDAQ: GRMN) has undergone a rather large transformation.

But when you think about its primary products, you cannot help but wonder how Garmin stock is becoming valuable again.

Money Morning’s Andrew Keene takes us way back to primitive times when we were all excited to have a GPS device in our cars.

After years of unfolding large paper maps to find our way, and then never being able to re-fold them to put back away, a GPS device that plugged into your cigarette lighter was better than cavemen getting fire.

Dow Jones Today Could Stay Flat on D.C. Stimulus Battle

The Dow Jones today is flat as Washington can’t seem to agree on a stimulus package.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi says that Congress and the White House are still miles apart on an agreement to provide economic stimulus to millions of Americans.

The White House has recently pitched a $1.8 trillion stimulus plan, while the Senate plans to vote on a limited stimulus bill that will offer “targeted relief for American workers, including new funding” for the Paycheck Protection Program.

How to Play Amazon Stock During the Prime Day Rush

After months of coronavirus-induced delay, Amazon's Prime Day – two days, really – is finally here. As we speak, the $1.7 trillion online juggernaut is hurling out deals left and right, and millions of shoppers are snapping them up just as soon as they come online.

Prime Day was, and still is, a gambit to boost summer sales and ultimately AMZN prices during the slow dog days of summer.

But just check out these numbers from Internet Retailer: For the 48-hour Prime Day period in 2019, Amazon sold more than 175 million products worth $7.16 billion – 68% of which came out of Amazon's own inventory, as opposed to others' "Marketplace" sales.

Prime Day has gotten so big it's starting to "spill over" – other retailers are doing a brisk online business with deals of their own, making it kind of an Internet-wide shopping holiday.

Now, investors have to be watching this and thinking, "Hmm… sounds good to me! Maybe I should throw some shares of AMZN in my 'shopping cart.'"

On the surface of it, it does sound good, but not so fast: There's a right time and a right way to go about putting on or adding to an Amazon position.

Trade SBUX, PZZA, and MO This Week for Big Pre-Election Profits

Recently, I shared more than 10 low-risk, high-probability trades for cashing in on downside market volatility between now and November and even beyond. Almost all those trades target a double – or better – and none of them risk more than a few cents per share.

But it's easy to capture profits on "upside" volatility, too. To do that, I'm going to share one kind of trade to make on three different stocks. It's just as easy and low-risk as my other trades, but these guys all have a decidedly bullish attitude.

And they're short-term, too. You don't want to wait long to get into these.

Now, everyone knows I'm a rules-based trader, so of course I fed these through my proprietary Money Calendar.

I sure liked what I saw – one of these trades even paid off 100% of the time over the past 10 years.
