Generac Just Became an AI Power Stock. Amazon Wrote the Script.
Generac just got treated like AI infrastructure, not a storm-season generator name.
Shares of Generac Holdings (GNRC) ripped higher Thursday after a company filing laid out a long-term deal to supply backup generators for Amazon data centers. The stock jumped as much as roughly 30% early and still closed near +18% around $207, one of the loudest moves on the S&P 500 board.
The commercial core is simple. Amazon is expected to take about $2.4 billion of generator deliveries in 2027 and 2028. The much larger $8 billion figure is the payment threshold that fully vests Amazon's stock warrant, not a single locked purchase order. Still, that is a different business story than selling home standby units into hurricane season.
The warrant is the other half of the story
Amazon.com NV Investment Holdings received a warrant for up to about 1.69 million Generac shares at roughly $200.93 each. About 308,000 shares vested right away. The rest unlock as Amazon makes paid generator orders through 2033. At full size that package is near a 3% equity claim and about $340 million of potential equity value at recent prices.
That structure does two jobs. It lines Amazon up with Generac's upside if the power build works. It also reminds existing holders that dilution is part of the handshake. Analysts called the deal a game changer. Wells Fargo kept a Buy and talked about Generac reaching toward $3 billion in data-center revenue by 2028 if the pipeline lands. Roth MKM used the same word: a game changer.
Power is the bottleneck, not the logo
AI campuses need steady power and backup that actually shows up. Generac said it will expand large megawatt generator capacity, including a plan to triple that factory capacity by August 2027. Getting the build right is the risk now. Building plants fast without wrecking margins is harder than filing an 8-K.
Amazon still matters more as a seal of approval than as a one-line revenue fix for a company of its size. Generac earned about $4.2 billion in 2025 revenue, so a multi-year power contract of this scale really does reprice the multiple if deliveries stick. Bears will watch whether the $2.4 billion window is the real floor or the best-case marketing package.
Bottom Line: Generac got pulled into the AI power chain with a real Amazon customer and a warrant that makes the relationship stick. The stock already paid for a lot of that hope in one session. Delivery schedules and factory expansion are the next proof, not another headline.
