Global Stock Markets Mostly Firmer; China's Party Congress Meetings On Deck

World stock markets were mostly firmer overnight. Many world stock indexes are at or near record or multi-year highs. U.S. stock indexes are pointed toward slightly higher openings when the New York day session begins.

Gold prices are modestly up and poked to a three-week high overnight. The yellow metal bulls have the near-term technical advantage, which means the path of least resistance for prices will be sideways to higher in the near term.

China this week starts its twice-a-decade Party Congress meetings, in which major economic and cultural planning initiatives are laid out for the next five years.

(Kitco News) – Asian and European stock markets were lower Friday, on the back of sharp losses in the crude oil futures market seen on Thursday. Overseas markets fell despite U.S. stock indexes posting record highs Thursday. U.S. stock indexes are pointed toward slightly lower openings when the New York day session begins.

Gold prices are posting good gains in pre-U.S. day session trading. A weaker U.S. dollar index Friday is helping out the gold market bulls.

In technical jargon, this is called a collapse in volatility, which precedes bigger price moves forthcoming. In layman's terms it's called the calm before the storm. U.S. stock indexes are pointed toward narrowly mixed openings when the New York day session begins.

Gold prices are slightly higher in pre-U.S. market trading.
