Did You Buy When There Was Blood in the Streets?

As all of you know, I'm a big collector of investing adages and aphorisms. And one of my favorites is an old French proverb that tells us to "Achtez aux canons, vendez aux clairons" - roughly speaking, "Buy on the cannons, sell on the trumpets."

Or perhaps you prefer the version of this advice reportedly articulated by Baron Rothschild - the 18th-century British nobleman and member of the Rothschild banking family - who is alleged to have said: "The time to buy is when there's blood in the streets."
