As the executive editor here at Money Map Press, I seek out and receive a daily avalanche of newsletters, news summaries and other breaking-story alerts.
And just before 2 p.m. yesterday, this New York Times news notice appeared in the lower right-hand corner of my computer screen:
"Breaking News: The Zika virus is a global emergency, the W.H.O. said, citing possible links to infant brain damage."
Back during my newspaper days - I spent 22 of them as a business journalist working in various newsrooms around the country - some editor would've seen an alert like that (before PCs, coming in on a teletype) as a kind of "call to action."
