Why the Old "Buy and Hold" Is No Longer the Way to Go

No matter if you have a mutual fund account, an IRA, or an employer-sponsored retirement account, you've probably been told at some point in time: put your money in for the long term in order to build your wealth.

This mirrors the idea that contributing a specific percentage or dollar amount of your paycheck during your working years will set you up for a nice retirement – and it's the single most common piece of investment advice out there.

But here's my concern…

The amount of money and time you need to build your wealth depends on your own lifestyle and desires. There's no "magic number" for you to reach. Your wealth is what you want it to be.

Now I'm not disputing that you can make money over the long haul…

I'm saying there's a much faster – and much easier – way to finally get that vacation house you've always dreamed of…

With WTI approaching $65 a barrel and Brent already surpassing $70, both have surpassed my estimate of where the prices would be at the end of June.

And this is why...

Jeff Sessions' Crusade on Marijuana Put on Hold Until Dec. 8, 2017

Thanks to an agreement, Attorney General Jeff Sessions has to hold off attacking the medical marijuana industry until December.

Federal funds can't be used to interfere with states with legalized medical marijuana.

The future of the cannabis industry may seem uncertain after December, but here's why forward-looking investors could make a lot of money from the cannabis market...

World Markets On Hold, Awaiting UK Election, ECB Results, and Comey Testimony

World stock markets were mostly firmer overnight. U.S. stock indexes are also pointed toward modestly higher openings when the New York day session begins.

Gold prices are weaker in pre-U.S.-session trading Thursday, on some profit taking from recent gains.

Important and possibly markets-moving events are on tap Thursday. There are general elections in the U.K., a European Central Bank meeting, and former FBI director James Comey testifies to the U.S. Congress.
