For BBRY stock, the market reaction to today's (Tuesday) missed earnings was a familiar one.
The once high-flying BlackBerry Ltd. (Nasdaq: BBRY) stock slumped about 4% to below $9 a share. In its heyday BlackBerry stock traded at over $100 a share.
Now CEO John Chen is trying to rebuild BlackBerry by focusing on its software business.

Yesterday (Thursday), the Dow Jones Industrial Average suffered its steepest drop since July 31st, with tech stocks leading the plunge.
The dive was fueled by a sharp downturn in shares of Apple Inc. (Nasdaq: AAPL), which fell for the second consecutive day. AAPL stock dropped 3.8%, falling below $100 per share. Concerns about software glitches in its iOS platform and structural problems in the iPhone 6 Plus are heavily weighing on the stock.

U.S. markets were mixed Thursday, with the Nasdaq and S&P 500 eking out modest gains and the Dow Jones shedding 19 points on news that the EU has issued new sanctions against Russian energy companies.
Investors also grew more cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve meeting next week, with many suggesting the central bank will take a more hawkish approach toward interest rates.

BlackBerry Ltd. (Nasdaq: BBRY) stock suffered a black eye last week, but now a white knight hopes to turn things around for the company.
BBRY plunged 17% Friday after the company announced it's anticipating a quarterly loss of nearly $1 billion, due largely in part to the failure of the new BlackBerry 10 line of phones. The BB10s were supposed to be the shot in the arm the ailing company needed.
