How much trouble is International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) in? We recently talked to tech blogger and IBM book author Robert X. Cringely - and he sees a troubled road ahead.

Last summer, Cringely released in The Decline and Fall of IBM: End of an American Icon? In it he explores the missteps that left this once-feared, 100-year-old technology company to lose its edge in a rapidly growing tech landscape. Cringely has been following IBM's decline since 2007.

Here's what he had to say...

By Jim Bach, Associate Editor, Money Morning • @JimBach22 - March 31, 2015

will IBM stock rebound

When will IBM stock rebound? And how? Through cloud? Big Data? Mobile? Security?

Well, the IBM stock price is unmoved by a new Internet of Things initiative announced today (Tuesday). But it could represent something much bigger for IBM that could aid what's been a painful turnaround.

Here's what the IoT development means for IBM stock...

By Jim Bach, Associate Editor, Money Morning • @JimBach22 - March 24, 2015

IBM stock price

This week, the International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) stock price has gotten a reprieve from what has been a long, painful downtrend, as it looks to break above new five-month highs.

IBM stock is up on news about a promising IBM-Chinese partnership, and a product cycle refresh in its mainframes that should help IBM recoup some of its lost revenue in hardware over the last few years.

But don't be so quick to jump in on IBM stock just yet...

By Jim Bach, Associate Editor, Money Morning • @JimBach22 - March 10, 2015

IBM stock

For all the reasons to avoid International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) stock right now, the IBM dividend may seem like the only reason to buy it.

And while it's always good for stocks to yield some kind of income for investors, the IBM dividend is not by itself a reason to buy IBM stock.

Here's what you need to consider before buying IBM stock...

By Jim Bach, Associate Editor, Money Morning • @JimBach22 - February 11, 2015

NYSE IBM

International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE: IBM) used to be an innovator in tech.

IBM Stock Is Taking Yet Another Hit

By Michael E. Lewitt, Global Credit Strategist, Money Morning • @MichaelELewitt - January 26, 2015

IBM stock

In late October, I warned investors to avoid IBM stock.

At that time, the stock was trading around $162 per share. Today it is trading at a shade under $158 per share, and could be heading much lower.

"Big Blue's" transition, or perhaps we can call it "turnaround," is at best stalling, and at worst, setting investors up for more disappointment as evidenced by its fourth-quarter (2014) earnings report.

In fact, let's cut to the chase right away: IBM's just reported fourth-quarter earnings laid another egg.

It's simply not going well for IBM, and here is how we need to play IBM stock today...

Q4 IBM Earnings Say Stock Is Still a "Hold"

By Jim Bach, Associate Editor, Money Morning • @JimBach22 - January 20, 2015

IBM stock

IBM earnings were released today (Wednesday). The verdict - another lousy quarter for sales.

While troubling that sales fell for the 11th quarter in a row, a deeper look at IBM's financials reinforce where the real trouble lies. And they are much more entrenched than a mixed earnings season.

Here's what matters in today's IBM earnings...
