The Republican National Committee announced that it was backing out of an NBC debate – scheduled for Feb. 26, 2016 – amid ire with sister network CNBC. Doing so was in direct response to the failed GOP debate hosted on Oct. 28 by CNBC. RNC Chairman Reince Priebus wrote in a letter to NBC News Chairman Andy Lack that it would henceforth cease cooperating with the network, reported CBS News on Friday, stating, “The RNC's sole role in the primary debate process is to ensure that our candidates are given a full and fair opportunity to lay out their vision for America's future. We simply cannot continue with NBC without full consultation with our campaigns.”
The latest batch of Hillary Clinton's private emails, released by the U.S. State Department just a week after congressional Republicans interrogated the 2016 Demorcatic presidential front-runner, includes one message that shows Clinton made an effort to help evacuate the Libyan prime minister from Benghazi. Clinton apparently greenlighted a request for aid to be given and responded via a message from her White House aide Huma Abedin. The revelation of this message counters Clinton’s persistant claim that requests for supplies and aid never made it directly to her desk.
Last week, Jeb Bush’s campaign released an internal memo that is essentially a “burn book” of the weaknesses of fellow Republican presidential hopeful Marco Rubio. One big criticism listed is Rubio’s missed Senate votes. Bush has since denied ever seeing the memo, reported Politico earlier today. He told the media site that, while detailing the differences between himself and other candidates is just part of having a campaign, he has long stressed the importance of bringing the GOP hopefuls together. Alongside Jeb, Rubio also responded to the news by saying: “I didn’t get the memo,” but noted on CBS’s “Face the Nation” Sunday that someone has obviously convinced the former Florida governor that attacking him is somehow going to help his campaign.
Appearing on Sirius XM's "Breitbart News Daily" with Stephen Bannon this morning, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump called Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz a “crazy, highly neurotic woman” who “negotiated a great deal” for debates. According to CNN, Trump is referring to Wasserman’s attempt to limit the number of presidential debates the candidates should attend. Also, he feels the chairwoman made certain that Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton was given “softball questions” during the last presidential debate.
The super PACs backing presidential hopeful Ted Cruz have yet to reserve any TV time, reported Politico early this morning. This is despite a combined $38 million these super PACs have amassed – an amount that’s second only to GOP presidential nomineee and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s $103 million operation.
