At an annual press conference held in Moscow today, Russian President Vladimir Putin sang 2016 presidential front-runner Donald Trump's praises. According to Putin, Trump's election could bolster U.S.-Russia relations.
"He is an absolute leader in the race," he said.
The Russian president didn't stop there. Eastern media outlet Interfax tweeted the Russian president's complete statement...
"He is a really brilliant and talented person, without any doubt. It's not our job to judge his qualities, that's a job for American voters, but he's the absolute leader in the presidential race."
Like Trump, Putin is just as much a personality as he is a politician. He appeals to a certain population demographic in the East who consider themselves part of a marginalized sector.
Putin's remarks came after Trump's statement that he "got to know [Putin] very well." They both appeared on a Sept. 25 broadcast of "60 Minutes" - though in different segments filmed on different continents.
Putin finished his pro-Trump remark with an objective twist. He noted that "whoever the American people choose, we will work with."
