Gold prices hit a seven-year high Thursday, while U.S. Treasury yields plunged yet again.

The 10-year bond hovered at 1.53% – a pittance for investors who are looking out on a decade horizon.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared over 200 points this morning as optimism over the coronavirus prevailed.

Fears of the virus' economic consequences have dwindled.

But there are murmurs that the ongoing outbreak could interfere with commitments by China to honor its deal to purchase U.S. agricultural products.

The latest figures show that cases have surpassed 44,500 and more than 1,110 deaths.

While the House vote on Trump impeachment is driving headlines today, a Senate vote is still extremely unlikely to pass.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average could lose a few as the deadline for a fresh set of U.S. tariffs on China inches nearer.

Investors are hoping that China and the United States will be able to enact a "phase one" deal to avoid the December 15 tariffs.

This would set the two nations on a path toward a more robust deal heading into 2020.

The Dow Jones today projected a 122-point gain in pre-market trading after the McDonald's Corporation reported very strong quarterly earnings.

This morning, the firm reported EPS of $1.79 per share, a figure that topped analyst estimates by 12 cents.

Revenue did decline by 9% year-over-year, but the $5.14 billion reported still bested Wall Street expectations of $4.98 billion.

McDonald's leads a busy day of earnings reports as markets continue to cheer the best quarterly performance for the S&P 500 in seven years.
