Everything You Need to Know About the Dow Jones Today in Three Minutes

Projected a 80-point gain Monday morning as markets reacted to Warren Buffett's comments during Berkshire Hathaway's annual shareholder meeting over the weekend in Omaha, Nebraska.

According to Buffett, Berkshire is currently holding $100 billion in cash thanks to returns on roughly $14 billion of investments made in the first quarter of 2018.

Buffett also stated that he would be happy to invest the company's $100 billion if the right investment opportunity arose.

Wall Street Is Dead Wrong on Semiconductor Stocks; This One Could Jump 77%

At the end of 2017, Morgan Stanley announced that semiconductor stocks were "currently at a peak" and that investors should have "increasingly negative prospects for the industry."

Morgan Stanley's comments sent the semiconductor industry into a tailspin – by late December, the sector had undergone a 10% correction, and Wall Street prospects for the industry's 2018 performance were increasingly dim.

However, they couldn't have been more wrong...

It Pays to Know If Banks Are Doing Anything Stupid

The big "money center" banks are at the pinnacle of the U.S. and global economies. Like sleeping next to an elephant, every single little move they make has an outsized impact on every dollar you own. No investor can afford to ignore what they're doing, lest they end up on the wrong side of a gigantic capital wave.

The regionals – banks with presence in five, 10, or more states – are different. They're important, don't get me wrong, but I watch them like a hawk for the same reason I listen to the results of my annual physicals: to make sure everything's working right, and nothing disastrous is looming out there.

That's because, as the history of the financial crisis clearly tells us, regional banks are where you find the very first signs of the kind of gross stupidity and borderline criminal behavior that can spread to the money centers. 

It's like "monkey see, monkey do," except the sequence runs, "little monkey do, big monkey see, all the monkeys take complete leave of their senses, and the global economy crashes."

And the regionals' earnings calls are where the first indications of this show up. That's why I never miss one...
