Why the SEC Really Pulled the Plug on Stops – and What You Can Do About It

Last month the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) announced that it would no longer accept stop-loss and good 'till cancelled (GTC) orders. It went on to say that it would cancel existing orders of those types in its books, too.

The policy, subject to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rule filings, goes into effect on February 16, 2016, so there's plenty of time to prepare. Besides, GTC orders usually expire in 90 days, anyway. And of course the brokerages will continue to offer these types of orders. They'll simply trigger in-house and then be sent as limit or market orders for execution.

"Here in Paris," French President Hollande declared, "we will decide on the very future of the planet."

Perhaps I'm too skeptical for my own good, but that's very similar to what world leaders said in 1997 just before the Kyoto Accords. And those have proven to be little more than lip service.

Even if 100% of the Kyoto requirements are followed by 100% of the 192 countries that signed them, they will deliver less than 0.02° Celsius in cooling by 2050 despite costing hundreds of billions of dollars.

Is that worth it?

I have no idea – I'm not a scientific expert.

But I do know beyond any shadow of a doubt that trillions of dollars are going to get set in motion no matter what happens in La Ville Lumière.

Here's what that means for your money and how you can cash in...

Trump has been making outrageous and offensive statements for years, but now that he's running for president, they're getting more attention. Many of the worst examples aren't even off-the-cuff remarks in a speech, but comments he makes on Twitter.

These are not things any presidential hopeful should be saying...
